NEW YORK (Dow Jones)–Gen. George Casey, who is soon expected to be replaced as the top U.S. military commander in Iraq, will be given the job of Army chief of staff, NBC News reported Friday, citing Bush administration and Pentagon officials.

However, the job won’t become vacant for several months, when the current general in charge, Peter Schoomaker, is scheduled to leave that post, NBC said.
