NEW YORK (Dow Jones)–President George W. Bush has selected Fred Fielding to replace Harriet Miers as White House counsel, Republican party sources said, Time magazine reported on its Web site Monday.

Fielding held the post under former president Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1986, the magazine reported. An official announcement on the pick could come Tuesday. Miers announced Thursday she was leaving the post, effective Jan. 31.
