Poll: Americans, By 61%-36%, Oppose More Troops In Iraq January 9, 2007

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)–Americans, by 61%-36%, oppose increased troop levels in Iraq, and their opinion of the job President George W. Bush is doing in Iraq has hit a record low, according to a USA Today/Gallup Poll, the newspaper reported Tuesday.

Approval of the job Bush is doing in Iraq sunk to 26%, a record low, the poll showed, USA Today reported. The poll was conducted Friday through Sunday of 1,004 adults, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Bush is expected to announce an increase in U.S. troop strength in Iraq of around 20,000 in a Wednesday evening address to the nation.
