TEHRAN (AP)–Iran is looking to Russia for support on the Persian country’s standoff with the international community over its nuclear program, the Iranian state radio reported Sunday, as a ranking Russian diplomat met top Iranian leaders.

The radio said Iran was looking to Russia for “new proposals, such as enrichment of uranium on Russian soil,” and expects Russia to “take a close stance with the international community” to help Iran resolve its nuclear standoff.

Russia’s national security adviser, Igor Ivanov, held talks Sunday in Tehran with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran’s foreign minister and also the country’s top nuclear negotiator.

In a rare reception for visiting diplomats, Ivanov also met with the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Ivanov and Ali Larijani, the nuclear negotiator, were expected to talk to reporters later Sunday.

The radio also said Russia has pledged to complete the Bushehr’s nuclear power station on schedule this year.

Russia last year agreed to ship fuel to Bushehr by March 2007 and launch the facility in September, with electricity generation to start by November.
