NEW YORK (Dow Jones)–A group of U.S. Senate Republicans, including war administration critics John Warner and Chuck Hagel, is set to visit the White House later Friday, USA Today reported on its Web site Friday.
Warner, of Virginia, and Hagel, of Nebraska, will meet with President George W. Bush, who will host a meeting and reception for the senators, the newspaper reported. The White House meeting is to come at the end of a day-long strategy session by the Republicans. There was no mention of the other senators scheduled to attend the meeting.
The Senate is expected on Monday to consider a resolution critical of the president’s decision to boost U.S. troop levels in Iraq. Warner has crafted a resolution critical of the troop increase which has drawn the backing of Hagel, the New York Times reported Thursday.
